Worth knowing

That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Honeywell Vent Sanitizing: The Ashburn Owner’s Guide

CleanRun stocks and installs Honeywell-compatible vent sanitizing systems in Ashburn, with installed pricing typically running $340-$580 for a whole-house application depending on system size and duct configuration. Most Ashburn jobs we book are completed same-day, and we carry Honeywell, Aprilaire, and Guardsman sanitizing hardware on our trucks. Homeowners usually discover the need after noticing persistent mustiness near registers, seeing visible microbial staining inside a duct run, or receiving an HVAC technician’s note following a service call in one of Ashburn’s newer townhome developments.

Which Honeywell Models This Applies To

Honeywell’s vent sanitizing ecosystem breaks into three series that Ashburn homeowners encounter most often: the UV100E modular line, the F300 electronic air cleaner with integrated sanitizer ports, and the newer REME-HALO-compatible retrofit collars. The UV100E series uses a 16-inch or 24-inch lamp housing, and the critical compatibility point is the plenum depth, not the duct width. We’ve measured plenums in Ashburn’s Loudoun Station townhomes that were spec’d at 14 inches deep, forcing a 16-inch lamp with a custom mounting bracket rather than the 24-inch standard.

To identify your part, check the silver label on the lamp housing for a part number beginning with UV, then measure plenum depth with a tape measure through the access panel. OEM Honeywell lamps carry the UV100E1006 or UV100E2009 designation and run 9,000-hour rated life. Quality aftermarket equivalents from RGF and Dust Free exist, but we stock OEM Honeywell lamps because the ceramic base tolerances on aftermarket units have shown higher failure rates in Northern Virginia’s humidity swing, particularly in homes without whole-house dehumidification.

Signs Your Honeywell Vent Sanitizing Is Failing

Signs Your Honeywell Vent Sanitizing Is Failing
  • The indicator light is out or flickering. Honeywell UV lamps use a violet LED status indicator visible through the access port. A dark or intermittent light usually means lamp degradation below effective output, not merely a burned-out bulb. The quartz sleeve may also be fouled with dust, blocking both light and UV-C transmission.
  • Persistent odor from registers after cleaning. When the UV-C output drops below 40 microwatts per square centimeter, biological film in the duct run can reestablish faster than the lamp suppresses it. In Ashburn’s clay-soil developments near Belmont Ridge Road, we’ve found this threshold crossed at 7,000-8,000 hours of actual runtime, sooner than the 9,000-hour rating.
  • Visible staining or growth at the evaporator coil. The Honeywell system is upstream of the coil by design. If you’re seeing microbial buildup on the coil itself, the sanitizer either isn’t firing or isn’t positioned to treat the full air stream. This is common after a DIY lamp swap where the orientation bracket was reversed.
  • HVAC technician notes “biological activity” on service report. This is coded language for what the camera showed. Ask to see the photo. If the technician won’t share it, that’s information in itself.
  • Annual energy costs rising without usage change. A fouled quartz sleeve or degraded lamp forces the blower to work harder against restricted airflow, and the coil runs less efficiently when biofilm insulates the fins. The hit is usually 8-12% on cooling load in Ashburn’s July humidity.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Ashburn homeowners, our installed pricing for Honeywell vent sanitizing runs as follows:

Component Price Range
OEM Honeywell UV lamp (16″ or 24″) $180-$260
Quartz sleeve replacement (if etched or cracked) $85-$140
Labor: remove, inspect, install, test $160-$220
Whole-house application, multi-point system $340-$580

What drives the range: plenum accessibility (some Ashburn builders tucked units behind drywall with no access panel), whether the quartz sleeve is reusable, and if the ballast assembly shows corrosion from condensate drip. Every job starts with a written price under Haven Standard Clause 1, agreed before we touch a screw. The lamp carries a 1-year manufacturer warranty; our labor and the quartz sleeve are covered under the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

CleanRun Air Duct Cleaning Ashburn is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Honeywell International. We source OEM and verified-equivalent parts through standard HVAC distribution channels.

What you can safely check: confirm the lamp indicator status through the access port, verify the breaker hasn’t tripped, and note any visible cracks in the quartz sleeve through the housing window. Do not remove the housing cover. The UV-C lamp operates at high voltage and the quartz sleeve is under slight negative pressure; a cracked sleeve can release mercury vapor and expose you to unshielded ultraviolet radiation.

Where DIY goes wrong: homeowners who swap the lamp without cleaning the sleeve, or who install an aftermarket lamp with incorrect base pin spacing, creating an arc fault that damages the ballast. The ballast replacement then costs more than the original professional install would have. Tomas Reyes has photographed more than one Ashburn job where the homeowner’s “simple” lamp swap turned into a full housing replacement because the ceramic base cracked on insertion.
